Ingredients for Strong Team Communication
Ingredients for Strong Team Communication
September 20, 1999
"Candid communication requires more than a talent with words - it involves taking the time to develop the following skills:
*Trust
Trust is mostly about how one person feels about another. Always be open and honest with your teammates and ask them to do the same with you. Always keep your word.
*Understanding
To develop true understanding among your teammates, you must first know yourself completely. Be honest with yourself about your strengths and weaknesses.
*Empathy
For you and your teammates to be empathetic toward one another, you must be nonjudgmental of your different workplace behaviors, personal beliefs, backgrounds, and lifestyles. Keep an open mind to new ideas.
*Resolution
Communication is not attainable until there is closure - be it agreement on an idea or ending a conflict. Make sure your team talks through every issue fully, including its conclusion (Teamwork, 1999, p. 2)."
