Cramming
September 13, 2000
"How many of you 'crammed' in school? (Most of us did.) How many of you worked on a farm? Did you 'cram' on the farm? That is, did you forget to plant in the spring, loaf through the summer, then try to do everything in the fall, just before harvest? Doesn't work. Growing plants is subject to natural laws and principles. Take leadership. It doesn't just 'happen.' You can't cram for it. It isn't a matter of attending a seminar or course. You need to work at it over a period of time to be effective. Why? Principles are involved. It takes time to appreciate and apply principles and allow them to become the center of your life. Values may vary from person to person, but the principles of effective leadership are eternal and universal (Covey, 2000, p.7)."
