Ten Ways to Bring Fun to Your Workplace

"Psychologists recognize that fun is a vital component of an effective work environment. A vast body of research shows that employees work faster and smarter when the organizational culture allows for some loosening up.
The best way companies can foster a buoyant atmosphere is to continually reinforce the message that fun is allowed, encouraged, and rewarded.
Here are a variety of suggestions to encourage creativity throughout your workplace.
* Kick off or close meetings with a fun participatory event
* Go to an arcade or carnival
* Establish a room where employees can go to unwind
* Have a 'Play Day'
* Use toys and games to make learning more interesting
* Allow employees to wear costumes, masks, or other offbeat garb on special
occasions
* Transform one employee into the VPF (vice president of fun)
* Use unusual title on business cards
* Give fun awards
* Send humorous e-mail messages and cards to colleagues
* Write a parody (Ayan, 1997, pp. 131-134)."
