Sisyphus
Sisyphus
November 26, 2001
"There is a Greek myth which tells the story of Sisyphus, who is condemned to roll a rock to the top of a hill, to see it roll back to the bottom, then roll it back up the hill to the top, where again it rolls back down, and so on through eternity. Week in, week out, day in, day out, Sisyphus worked. There are many such individuals today who work like this. Does your life feel like this? If you told Sisyphus to stop, his first reaction would be surprise, then relief, and then to start looking for something to do. This is because, like many, Sisyphus looks only outside for purpose. Like many, Sisyphus will never know what is inside of him for while he is so busy he never has to confront his inner being (Owen, 2000, p. 58)."
