Commitment to Teamwork
August 10, 2004
"Commitment is shown not only through adherence to issues and positions in the organization but also through a demonstration of the manager's commitment to the group and teamwork in general. As the leader, a manager's actions and policies affect the overall ability of the group to work together. The most effective managers
- Create structures that are conducive to both work groups and teams
- Encourage and reward cooperation rather than competition between different work units
- Provide the means for groups to communicate their goals and objectives to one another and ensure that they are mutually supportive
- Set an example by demonstrating group leadership as well as being an effective group member
- Acknowledge and celebrate work group and team accomplishments (Gottlieb, 2003, p. 47)."
