Seven Lessons for Leading the Voyage to the Future

Seven Lessons for Leading the Voyage to the Future

Here are seven lessons that are important to thriving in the future.

  1. "Leaders Don't Wait

Leadership opportunities are indeed adventures of a lifetime and require a pioneering spirit.

  1. Character Counts.

People expect their leaders to stand for something and to have the courage of their convictions.

3.      Leaders Have Their Head in the Clouds and Their Feet on the Ground.

Not only do we demand that leaders be credible; we also demand that they be forward-looking: that they have a sense of direction and a vision for the future.

  1. Shared Values Make a Difference.

Leaders must be able to gain consensus on a common cause and a common set of principles.

5.      You Can't Do It Alone.

Leadership is not a solo act.

  1. The Legacy You Leave is the Life You Lead.

How you lead your life determines whether people want to put their life in your hands.

7.      Leadership is Everyone's Business.

When we liberate the leader in everyone, extraordinary things happen (Graves & Addington, 2002, p. 80-88)."
