Mar 21 - Mean What You Say
Mean What You Say
March 21, 2006
"Yogi Berra, as famed for his malapropisms as for anything he did on the baseball field, once remarked, 'I really didn't say everything I said!' Sadly, neither have most of us.
If the discipline of Neurolinguistic Programming teaches us anything it is the importance of precision in our communications. Study after study has shown that the more precise a person is in communication, the more successful he or she becomes. The best managers and leaders in the world are those who are able to clearly convey their abstract visions and ideas to almost anyone.
Many of us speak in generalizations. But phrases such as 'too many,' 'too much,' and 'too expensive,' for example, have no meaning unless they are further defined. Consequently, it's very important that you work to establish what benchmark is being used for comparison (Jeary, 2004, p. 63)."
