"There is an old story about two stonemasons working side by side putting bricks together with mortar. Asked what they were doing, one said, 'I'm laying bricks.' The other said, 'I'm building a cathedral.' Don't you think that those answers reflect different degrees to which those workers were engaged in their work? When an activity has personal significance, we throw ourselves into it more completely than when it's 'just a job.'The extent to which people throw themselves into work is a function of many things, but partly depends on whether the organization has clear and compelling aspirations (The Center for Creative Leadership, 2005, p. 49)."
