Learn from Difficult, Less Rewarding Jobs
May 15, 2007
- "Do whatever you're asked to do - no job is so small or menial that it doesn't need to be done well. And no one is too good for the small jobs.
- Do things right the first time - it doesn't matter how hard you work if you're working on the wrong thing. Shortcuts usually end up costing time and quality - and reputation.
- Your attitude affects everyone around you - attitude is contagious, and a positive attitude can make the difference between a task completed with excellence and shoddy workmanship.
- Take pride in what you do - remember, your name is on every 'fence' you build. In everything you do, do your best so that you can look back on your work with pride.
- Go back and correct your mistakes - we all make mistakes. The wise person admits them, corrects them, and doesn't leave them for others to take care of.
What about you? Are you working with excellence in all areas of your work and life - or are you letting some tasks slide because you don't enjoy them as much as others? Can you look back on everything you've done in the past six months with pride (Soderquist, 2006, p. 35-36)?"
