Professionalism

April 17, 2007

As a leader you set the tone for others. Your behavior will be closely watched - and copied.

  • Always be pleasant.
  • Greet people by name.
  • Listen to others in meetings.
  • Always introduce others who are with you to people you bump into.
  • Never take anything for granted.
  • Avoid office gossip.
  • Stay out of office politics.
  • Dress for success and acceptance.
  • Be timely in everything you do.
  • Be willing to listen to others even if you think that your opinion will differ.
  • Don't argue with people needlessly.
  • Always show interest in the people around you.
  • Encourage those lower in the corporate hierarchy to strive for improvement.
  • Model the behavior you expect from others (Charney, 2006, p.48-49)."
