The High Road
The High Road
February 24, 2009
"By definition, High Road leaders make developing people and relationships an equal priority with handling the current situation and delivering results.
They do that by asking this sort of question: How can I best create strong short-term and long-term results and move the relationship with this person forward?
Signs and actions of the High Road include:
* Assisting others, regardless of what they have or have not done for us.
* Asking others for their ideas.
* Addressing tough issues directly.
* Remaining non-defensive in the face of accusatory or derogatory comments.
* Keeping the team objective rather than personal positioning or gain as the priority.
* Showing true interest in others, tapping into what is important to them.
* Giving credit to others when they deserve it.
* Developing people rather than trying to fix them (Vannoy & Ross, 2008, p. 121-122)."
