Self Development
Self Development
"An enormous vacuum in leadership exists today - in business, politics, government, education, religion, and nonprofit organizations. Yet there is no shortage of people with the capacity for leadership (George, 10077,p. xxiv)." However, "The missing link in leadership development is growing the person to grow the leader. As we grow, so shall we lead. We lead by the virtue of who we are." This later quote is from Paul Walsh, former CEO of Pillsbury and is very striking in this time when organizations seek individuals to lead during these challenging times.
Leadership of yesterday focused on a clear distinction between the leader and their respective followers...leaders decided what the right thing to do was and followers did it the right way. Today, leaders and followers need to decide what is the right thing and do it the right together. Furthermore, it is not waking up one morning and deciding today I'm going to be a 21st century leader. It's actually the most challenging journey that one can encounter, but at the same time be the most rewarding. The ket to success as a leader in this environment starts with an individual willing to grow them as an authentic leader.
This journey can begin with various assessment tools that will identify an individual's talent and allow them to build their capacity as a leader.
